The 6" tall deciduous foliage is topped, starting in late March (NC), with lovely soft blue flowers, each highlighted by a white signal (eye zone) surrounded by a dark blue eclipse. Although Iris cristata is quite drought tolerant, it really grows best in rich, slightly moist woodland soil.
