and though I haven't been able to place its maker (it is signed on the underside but a bit difficult to read the last couple of letters of the last name) I am sure it has not travelled too far

Terry rendered this scene on what one imagines was a chilly January evening in 1897 portraying, I have to guess, Benedict and Gabriel deep in a chess match in front the fire, while Basil and Evangline gazed into each other's eye sharing confidences and holding hands in the window seat nearby. Feels a bit 1970s as well as 1890s! Brilliantly executed down to ever detail, the
