The piece has been sewn onto metal dowels for hanging--exposed at the top (giving it a sort of medieval quality) and enclosed at the bottom

There is a very faint—noticeable only in certain light—ring mark (water stain) on the top of the box

and would be fantastic hung on the wall as well as used as a rug
