I can't decide for sure whether that hat on this guy is a hunting cap with the ear flaps up

I'd assume from the farm of a family whose last name began with "R"

into which one might read (or onto which one might project) a mix of pleasure and sadness and perhaps some scheming and secrets too

I love her side cast gaze, and prominent nose, and pinkened cheeks, but most of all I love the play between the ruffle of her bonnet as it crosses her forehead
