Sir Edward Hoby Finish:Stretched 19th March 1936Sir Edward Hoby (1560 1617). Hoby was a soldier, diplomat and scholar, and the son of Sir Thomas Hoby, an important ambassador of Henry VIII. In 1588 he was appointed Secretary to the Council of War that made the preparations to meet the Spanish Armada. From the picture at Bisham Abbey, in possession of Sir Henry James Vansittart Neale.
