Edward Evans (1881 1957) was second in command of Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition of 1910 1913. He led the last supporting party to accompany Scott's polar team, but was taken seriously ill with scurvy on the return to the expedition's base. As a result he was sent home aboard the 'Terra Nova' in March 1912, but returned the following year to pick up the surviving
