In 1941 during the course of Operation Barbarossa they were involved in the assault against Russia from bases in Pilau

although only a Private showed conspicuous gallantry and determination in organising the small party which arrived at the final objective

The outward appearnace of all versions were similar because they had to meet certain set requirements

as awarded to NCO's and Men for campaign against Napoleon's Army in 1797

A Bavarian Royal Merit Order Of St. Michael; First Class certificate_of_authenticity 17th June 1901A Bavarian Royal Merit Order of St. Michael Brest Star First Class, in silver, center in Gold and enamels, 79mm, of French manufacture, with French silver hallmark (eagles head) on the pin and catch, circa 1860, of excellent quality manufacture, slightly worn, in extremely fine condition. Footnote: many Bavarian orders and awards were produced in France during early to mid 19th Century.
