You want your belt as loose as possible yet still have the ability to turn the motor pulley and handwheel when you step on the foot controller

To apply the new case handle:

and Shirring Plate

Because you will be able to fix it and use it

Remove the belt from around the motor pulley and handwheel

Case Latch / Lock with Screws & Nuts, Singer Featherweight (Vintage Original) piecing You want your belt asVintage Original Featherweight Case Latch (only) for the Singer 221 & 222K. This is the LOWER lock portion of the latch. Please see photo for arrow indicator as to which part this is. Drill out the rivets that are still on your case and replace with this original vintage part using the new mini screws and nuts included. (Because removing the original brads compromises the integrity of the original wood, we do not recommend replacing with brads again.)
