A holophote is a lamp which incorporates lenses or reflectors to collect the light and throw it in a particular direction. They are used in lighthouses. Launced in 1883, HMS 'Imperieuse' was an armoured cruiser. From 1896 until 1899 she was flagship of the Royal Navy's Pacific Station. A print from The Navy and Army Illustrated, 12th June 1896.
