This is a great large Penobscot (Native New England) splint ash and sweetgrass basket woven around a clear glass vase
which may once have read "CHINA" backwards (now it reads "HINA")
This interlocking design is rendered in black on the top and sides of the box's lid against an allover field of incised pin-prick like marks
MicMac Porcupine Weave Fancy Lidded Basket interlocking parts which this one does not--ratherThis is a newer, un dyed splint and grass presumed MicMac basket with "porcupine" weave around the perimeter of the lid and again near the bottom of the base. Bright and clean (there's a bit of dust captured in a couple of the photos that has since been brushed off!) with a great silhoutte, it's a nice one just to set on a shelf, or to fill with a couple of little treasures and give as a gift basket!
