Ana Denham
Hi, I’m Angharad Denham and I am a Trustee and Treasurer for the Charity Joy of Learning. I live in a tiny village in South Wales and currently teaching Mathematics in a Welsh Comprehensive School. I am a fluent Welsh speaker, I went to Welsh schools and studied part of my course at University in Welsh. I studied Mathematics and Education at Aberystwyth University and it was at Aberystwyth where I met Emily, the founder of Joy of Learning.
I enjoy dancing (Ballet, Tap and Modern), was a member of Sally Parfitt’s School of Dance from age 3 to 19 and I became a committed member of a sports society called Showdance during my time at University. During this time, I served as their Treasurer for a year while Emily was their Secretary. As Treasurer this involved planning, preparing, and delivering dance lessons for the team and I also managed the teams bank account.
From an early age I have been involved with Girl Guiding, firstly as a member and now as a volunteer. I help weekly running a local Guide Unit. Additionally, through Girl Guiding I accomplished my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. As a result of these experiences, I have acquired valuable skills such as having the confidence to lead and to be responsible when working with young people, which I believe will guide and devote my skills to where they will be most effective.
As of today, I haven’t been able to visit Uganda but it’s on top of my bucket list! Hopefully I can go out soon to explore and create amazing memories of the wonderful country. I believe every child should have the opportunity to receive a consistent education and Joy of Learning will help this happen in Uganda.
