Educational sponsorship is at the heart of Joy of Learning. The monthly donations generously given by our sponsors cover a child’s school requirements and give them the chance of a successful future.
All of our families need some additional support however, to help their child fully engage with school. We provide basic food packages and in some instances medical assistance and we rely on donations to help us meet these basic needs.
How your support helps
We provide Hudson’s family with regular food assistance. He lives in a big family with 8 other children, and is looked after by his grandparents. Hudson’s grandmother tries to grow some food in their garden, but this is not always successful due to the unpredictable climate in Uganda. Before our involvement she was often eating every other day, just so her children could eat one meal a day. Thanks to donations, we are able to support Hudson’s family with a food package every three months containing the staples needed for all of the family to eat regular meals.
Another child we support, Sudais, has suffered from seizures his entire life. His father took him to hospital when he was younger to try and get some help but, due to insufficient funds, he could not get the answers and treatment his son so desperately needed. Since working with Sudais and his family, we have been able to get him a long-overdue epilepsy diagnosis and facilitate regular consultations with a Paediatric Neurologist. We pay for any medication needed and ensure that Sudais and his father are able to get to and from appointments. He is on the waiting list for life changing brain surgery that should stop his seizures entirely. Until he is able to have that surgery, we are able to ensure that he can have the necessary support and medication to reduce his seizures as much as possible, and that is all thanks to generous donations.
